Sand Play Therapy
Sand therapy is a symbolic treatment process founded upon the work of Carl Jung.
It is designed for children in order to promote emotional development,
understanding, and healing. It is occasionally utilized with adults and
adolescents, too.
The client is presented with many objects and figures and
asked to place them in a sand tray. Theoretically, these figures form a symbolic
picture of the client’s unconscious mind, similar to the way an
analytically-oriented therapist interprets images from dreams.
This therapy is intended to create a comfortable environment
which in turn allows the client to become immersed in the sand therapy process.
The therapist is passive, responding primarily to the child’s comments in way
that creates a safe and secure invitation to further commentary and exploration. |
