Anger management describes a host of conditions
from authority problems to spouse abuse, often exacerbated by drug or alcohol
abuse or circumstances reminiscent of early childhood experiences.
Learn more about anger management below.
Anger Management refers to psychological therapies which help those with
excessive anger or rage better control their emotions.
For example, some therapists recommend the practice of finding agreement with
others rather than conflict. Deep breathing, meditation, and relaxation may also
be recommended along with empathy training, stress management, learning to
forgive, and improving self-talk. Some people with this problem have been
traumatized or abused – or have seen others traumatized or abused – and remain
deeply angry about it, sometimes “visiting” their anger unfairly on those they
are close to. Specialized trauma therapies such as
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Restructuring) may be utilized in
such instances.
It is crucial to note that the cause of anger varies greatly from one person to
the next, so a competent therapist for this condition will tailor a treatment
approach to the needs of each client at hand.
